Your Happy Space

Do you have a place in your home that is yours only? Your happy space? It could be the place where you like to sit and read a book or the latest issue of your favourite magazine while sipping your coffee. Or perhaps your craft room where it's just you and your creative self. Maybe the kitchen where you try a new recipe or bake and decorate a beautiful cake. Your garden, where you plant and prune and repot plants, creating new life and watching it grow. Maybe the comfy chair and the desk where you write your blog.

If you don't have a space in your home that is yours and yours only, you have to find it or make it. We live hectic lives and you need that unique spot in your home where you can reconnect with yourself. Your charging station. The place where you feel comfortable, relaxed, safe. A "me, myself and I" kind of place. The place where you do something that makes you happy and that helps you escape, relax and stay sane.

An entire room is ideal, but not always possible. If you think your house is too small for you to create a place that is yours and yours only, look around. I once created a mini-office space inside a wardrobe, and my current studio is a tiny place at the bottom of the stairs, while the space under the staircase is where I store the craft supplies paraphernalia.

You can always find a place for a tiny desk or table and a comfy chair. Add a few things that you love and that will help you personalize it. If it's a blog-writing desk, add some nice stationery, or a designer table lamp. If it's a book-reading armchair, buy that designer cushion that you've been dreaming of for a while or make one and add a fluffy rug for your feet to relax on. If there is some wall space, use it to display a favourite print, photo, or a motivational poster. After all, the space is about you and you will want to make sure everyone knows that.
